Sutel relaxes price limitations |
01 May 2012 |
Costa Rica’s telecoms regulator Superintendencia de Telecomunicaciones (Sutel) has relaxed price limitations on 202 services to allow providers more control over pricing strategy, Inside Costa Rica reported. According to the story Sutel eliminated its price floor on services such as changing a number (previously CRC760 plus taxes) or replacing a SIM card (CRC1, 996). In addition, caller ID was deemed a right of the consumer which operators are obliged to provide for no extra charge. President of Sutel, Carlos Raul Gutierrez, said the new market entrants – Mexico’s America Movil, which operates under its Claro banner and Spain’s Telefonica, which uses its Movistar moniker –offer an inclusive rate, rather than issuing minor charges for each service. Gutierrez added the change will allow the cellcos to attract more customers and generate benefits for the user as part of their business strategies. |
