TTCL to provide Rwanda additional bandwidth |
27 April. 2012 |
The government of Rwanda has signed a USD6.7 million ten-year contract with Tanzania Telecommunications Company Limited (TTCL) for the provision of an additional 1.244Gbps of international bandwidth to improve the country’s Internet connectivity, The East African reported. The additional bandwidth is expected to double Rwanda’s international capacity, which is estimated in the range of 1.1Gbps-1.2Gbps. “We want to make sure that there is sufficient and affordable Internet capacity on the Rwandan market so that we get to a point where internet bandwidth is a commodity,” said Patrick Nyirisheman, the head of Information and Communication Technology at the Rwanda Development Board. ““This would stimulate deployment of a wider and improved range of services to consumers at affordable prices,’ Nyirishema added. |
