20 April. 2012 |
The Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico are poised to get Sprint Nextel’s LTE, according to the independent blog www.s4gru.com, which charts the rollout progress of Sprint’s “Network Vision” project using inside information. Telecoms vendor Samsung and its regional subcontractors are set to begin work in the dual Puerto Rico/Virgin Islands markets this month. Twenty-two sites will see construction initially, and upon completion, there will be 266 sites deployed across the two markets. Of those, 249 will be situated on the main island of Puerto Rico, with three sites on the islands of Vieques and Culebra. In the Virgin Islands, eight sites will be located on St Thomas, five on St Croix and one on St John. Sprint is expected to use its existing 1900MHz PCS spectrum, while in the United States, it will re-use its 800MHz iDEN spectrum. |
