Virgin Mobile plans to launch mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) services in Argentina this year, El Cronista reported. The British company is awaiting authorization from the Argentine communications ministry, Secretaria de Comunicaciones (SeCom), to begin providing services. It also is looking to sign an MVNO agreement, which would allow it to operate over the infrastructure of one the country’s three established mobile network operators – Telefonica’s Movistar, Personal and Claro, owned by America Movil. Argentina will become Virgin Mobile’s third operation in Latin America. It plans to launch wireless services in Chile next month, followed shortly by Colombia. |
