Nigeria NP set for September

06 Feb. 2012

The introduction of number portability (NP) in Nigeria is expected to begin in September, TeleGeography CommsUpdate reported.

Last October, the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) announced it had selected a consortium of three companies – Interconnect, Saab Grintek and Telcordia – to manage the implementation of NP, which enables subscribers to retain their phone numbers when they switch service provider.

The consortium will receive its license this month, and within six months of the licensing date it is required to set up and introduce the NP platform.
