LTE trials begin in Thailand

06 Feb. 2012

Advanced Info Service (AIS) began the first 4G LTE mobile broadband trial, Jan. 31, in Bangkok and Maha Sarakham province, TeleGeography CommsUpdate reported.

AIS is using state-run telco TOT’s 2.3GHz band frequencies for the Bangkok trial, with some 20 4G base stations located in the center of the capital, the Bangkok Post reported.

Simultaneously, AIS is offering another non-commercial trial with TOT’s sister company CAT Telecom to provide 4G services on CAT’s 1800MHz spectrum, using eight cell sites installed in Maha Sarakham.

4G will enable users to enjoy live broadcasting with high-definition video quality, with data speeds ranging from 70Mbps to 100Mbps.
