India court rules licenses should be revoked

03 Feb. 2012

In the latest development regarding the controversial awarding of 2G licenses four years ago, India’s Supreme Court ruled that 122 concessions should be revoked, the Financial Times reported.

The court said reasoned the licenses should be cancelled because their allocation was “totally arbitrary and unconstitutional.”

In reaching its decision, the court concluded the policy governing the award of the concessions was faulty. It called on the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to prepare for a new sale of 2G licenses within four months.
