IPTV bidding heats up in Nepal |
31 Jan. 2012 |
No fewer than nine telecoms operators have applied for licenses to offer IPTV services in Nepal and could receive permits within the next two months, MyRepublica reported. Nepal’s government has formed a four-member task force under the auspices of the Ministry of Information and Communications (MoIC), Dhanaraj Gyanwali. The move to issue IPTV licenses follows an amendment to the Broadcasting Act in 2009/10. The companies and ISPs lining up for concessions are thought to be Nepal Telecom and Nepal Television (NTV), as well as Unique Space Cable, Kantipur Broadband, Nepal Dish TV, Itahari, Shangi-La Channel, WordLink, Himalayan Online Service, M-Vision Private Limited and Malekhu Cable. |
